Introducing The Earlybirds

earlybirds-largeI sit here rejoicing. Firstly in the supreme musical ability of The Dave Matthews Band, who are without doubt the greatest live act on the face of the planet. With each performance standing in the realms of virtuoso, and the new album Big Whiskey And The Groo Grux King is a very proud addition to my music collection, providing a smorgasbord of ear food for the writer as I expel forth the virtues of the newest signing to the NZ music scene and the second reason for rejoicing like its Sunday morning at Brian Tamakis house.

I present to you The Earlybirds!! If they were a recipe they would be a slice of The Kooks with a cup of Kings of Leon and a pinch of Opshop for a taste of kiwi, mixed together and then baked in an oven of youthful exuberance. The first single “Run Away” is a good base for our eulogizing, it’s a toe tapping, sing a long, radio friendly song that would sit comfortably in a rock format with the same considerable ease as, say, if it were in a Top 40 playlist. The proof of course, is always in the pudding as the saying goes and The Earlybirds have seen some instant adds at NZ radio on a range of formats, so sit back and enjoy some good kiwi tunes played with a musical attitude that belies the youthful ages of the players.

The Boys leave the warmth and security of their Devonport base this month and hit the road around NZ with Midnight Youth so check your gig guides and go see these boys live. You just may find yourself reaching to the heavens rejoicing in some choice, sweet as, hard out Kiwi coolness.
