BAT FOR LASHES AND THE 2009 MERCURY PRIZE

The winner of the prestigious and often controversial Mercury Prize were finally announced in the UK last week, and true to form, this years announcement was no exception in going against the odds! Despite English betting shop William Hill placing 6/1 odds on favorites for our favorite girl Natasha Khan – or Bat For Lashes as we like to call her – along with debut albums from La Roux and Florence and the Machine – Speech Debelle, UK hip hop artist mentored by Roots Manuva and signed to the Ninja Tune offshoot Big Dada came up from behind and took away the 20,000 quid grand prize.
Lily Allen sadly missed out on nomination for ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, but took to Twitter to support La Roux to say ‘I hope La Roux wins’.
If you haven’t heard Bat For Lashes ‘Two Suns’, it’s not too late – and why not take a look at her lovely new video for Sleep Alone here?
