TOURS TOURS AND MORE TOURS!

It seems each year as soon as there is a whiff of summer in the air, the international tours for the upcoming months start rolling in thick and fast. And the last couple of weeks have been no exception for ticket sales – it’s time to sacrifice food and petrol money for concert tickets!

Anyone with half a clue should be hovering expectantly over their keyboards come 9am this Friday to purchase tickets to what could already be one of the best gigs of 2010 – the Pixies, March 12 in Auckland! Pre-sales for this gig yesterday sold out in record time, so be standing by to grab those tickets tomorrow stat! They’ll be playing the whole of their 1989 release Doolittle, plus b-sides and assorted rarities – fingers crossed that they’ll also throw in a few other classics for their first ever gig in New Zealand.

Also on sale this week is tickets to Them Crooked Vultures, also playing Vector January 30th next year. Who you might ask? Hot off the heels of producing the brand new Arctic Monkeys album, Josh Homme yet again has got his fingers tangled up in another musical pie and has teamed up with Foo Fighter and drummer-for-hire Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin legend) to form quite possibly a complete dream team of rock and roll awesome! An album release is looming on the horizon, and perhaps it’s a little unusual to part with cash for a band you haven’t heard yet, but it’s pretty safe to say that there’s not much chance for disappointment here.

Also just announced, the Animal Collective play Auckland’s Powerstation on Tuesday 8th December – tickets on sale 25th September! Don’t miss the opportunity to see some of this years album ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ interpreted live – it’s sure to be an incredible gig.

And of course the first line up for Big Day Out 2010 is announced bright and early Tuesday next week! As usual there is no end of rumors flying about, our own Lily Allen being one of them. Stand by for for the announcement, 8am on the 29th.

FInally, should something a little more immediate and local be up your alley, and you happen to be in Auckland, head along to Cassette Number 9 this Friday night to catch one of the hottest brand new bands in the land, The Earlybirds. Their second single for ‘I Killed The DJ’ is about to drop any moment now, so why not head along and say you were there from the start to gain some extra cred? ‘ Yeah you know, i saw them when they were just playing clubs in 09 man…’
