It’s comin’…”Straight Outta Compton” a film about N.W.A

Now I know its ever-so-slightly old news but undoubtedly still worth mentioning…The film project currently underway ”Straight Outta Compton”. The story of the rise and fall of seminal gangsta rap group, N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitudes).

Rolling Stone listed N.W.A as one of the ’100 Greatest Artists of All Time’ and rightfully so! Their highly explicit lyrics, reflecting the rising anger of urban youth, was revolutionary within rap! Their second album, Straight Outta Compton, marked the beginning of the new gangsta rap era. It sold 9 million copies and introduced gangsta rap to the world!

The film will cover the highs and lows of the group including the ground-breaking release of ”Straight Outta Compton” in 1988.  The departure of Ice Cube over royalty disputes and the AIDS related death of Eazy-E.

Especially noteworthy is that the person tackling the N.W.A. adaptation is a white woman. Andrea Berloff, who wrote Oliver Stone’s true-life movie “World Trade Center”.

I eagerly anticipate the release of Straight Outta Compton.
